Internet Phone Line Tip (VOIP)

Many people are enjoying lower prices by converting their home phone lines to Internet based lines. These lines are called VOIP lines which stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol.

Note:This can only be used on cable modem or fiber Internet connections. DSL uses thoses wires to bring in service.

VOIP Home Connection Tip

The easiest way to distribute an Internet phone line throughout the house when you are replacing the current main line can be done without the help of any technician.

First you should disconnect the old main telephone line from the telephone company interface which is usually on the outside of your house. Look for the label where it indicates "customer access" and open the panel. Unplug the line at the external jack. Most of these have jacks just like you have when you unplug your phone.
Find the closest jack to the interface that the new IP phone vendor has provided. This new IP vendor line uses a standard phone plug just like the one shown left. Unplug the current phone which is using this jack.
Plug in a simple telephone splitter. Plug your telephone on one side and the new IP phone vendor cord to the other. The new IP phone line is now distributed to any other previously active jacks in the home.
