Frequently Asked
Questions
Q: Are there any other robotic
products in the pike?
A: Friendly Robotics is currently developing other household
products that'll help people relax more at home.
Q: Is it safe? What if I leave
a golf club in the yard?
A: It's perfectly safe. But just like with a traditional mower,
you should always clear the yard of any items less than 10 inches
high and should never be left unattended.
Q: My yard is hilly. Can the
RL500 work on my lawn?
A: Yes. Automatic mowing can be done for lawns with slopes as
steep as 15 degrees, while manual mowing with the RL500 can be
done on slopes as steep as 20 degrees.
Q: How long does it take to
charge the RL500?
A: One day (24 hours).
Q: How long does it take to
mow the lawn?
A: The RL500 can mow a lawn the size of a tennis court (that's
2,500 square feet) in 2 - 2 1/2 hours.
Q: How much does the RL500 weigh?
A: It weighs in at a lean, but not mean 50 lbs. The battery adds
another 28 lbs.
Q: How big is it?
A: It's about the same size as an ordinary lawn mower, without
the handles, or 12.4 inches tall, 35 inches long and 26 inches
wide.
Q: Does the RL500 work well
with all types of grass?
A: It'll perform optimally when the grass is less than 4"
from the root with minimum thatch and moisture, which is true
for all mowers, manual or robotic. We recommend that you cut
your lawn to 4" before first using your RL500. Then you
can adjust the RL500's wheels to 6 different height settings
as needed.
Q: How long will the RL500's
batteries last?
A: If charged regularly, and used only when fully charged, batteries
should last for over two years, on average. For optimum convenience,
though, it may be a good idea to purchase a spare battery pack.
An external charger will soon be available at: http://www.friendlymachines.com
; you'll always have at least one fully charged battery ready
for action at all times. It's perfect for those who want to mow
the whole lawn in one day, or over the weekend.
Q: Can the RL500 work while
it's raining?
A: Friendly Robotics does not recommend using your robomower
in the rain, as much for the protection of your grass, as for
the robomower. A quick spring shower that rolls through will
not damage the robomower if you are unable to bring it under
cover. However, the robomower is not recommended to operate in
prolonged or heavy rains, and damage may possibly occur if left
operating in these conditions.
Q: Can those with physical or
mobility limitations use the machine?
A: Absolutely. People with arthritis, lower back pain or physical
disabilities have praised the RL500. After all, there's no pushing
and no strain. While the mower should never be left completely
unattended, it is self-sufficient enough to be used by the physically
challenged.
Q: Can I adjust the cutting
height of the blade?
A: Certainly. There are 6 different settings that adjust the
cutting height anywhere from 1.5 to 3 inches.
Q: Does the perimeter wire pose
any electrical safety hazards?
A: None whatsoever. The RL500 perimeter line is connected to
a 4.5 volt power source.
Q: Obviously it pays to have
the RL500, but how much will I have to pay?
A: Surprisingly, only $795, including batteries, charger, perimeter
switch, wire, stakes, manual controller, user manual, installation
manual and video. For larger yards, a perimeter kit containing
extra wire, perimeter switch, and stakes is also available for
$100.
